Groupe PSA started serial production the Turbo PureTech 3-cylinder petrol engine in Szentgotthard, Hungary at a ceremony attended by Levente Magyar, Hungary’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Yann Vincent, Executive Vice President of Manufacturing and Supply Chain Groupe PSA, Pascale Andreani, French Ambassador to Hungary, local authorities, the plant’s management and all its employees.

Production capacity projected up to 350,000 engines to handle high customer demand for petrol engines. Running manufacturing and assembly lines were modified to accommodate production of the new engine.

With this new manufacturing site, the EB Turbo PureTech petrol engine can handle global demand. The EB Engine (Atmo and Turbo) is currently produced in France (Douvrin, Tremery), Poland (Tychy), China (Xiangyang), Morocco (Kenitra), and from 2020 in India (Hosur).

5.0 million EB engines have been produced to date and this additional capacity corresponds to increasing market demand, supported in particular by production of new Opel/Vauxhall models on Groupe PSA platforms and technology. This highly efficient engine contributes to the reduction of the CO2 emission with an average fuel consumption reduced by 4 proc. compared to the previous generation.

The powertrain plant in Szentgotthard, with twenty seven years of engine manufacturing experience, was converted to production of the EB Turbo PureTech petrol engine. The conversion was done to a great extent in-house and in parallel with the running production. At the same time he plant has also maintained manufacturing flexibility to produce the legacy engines as required for a limited time in the future.

- With this new state of the art engine, the Szentgotthard plant will become a solid contributor to Groupe PSA manufacturing footprint, able to produce for the Group five automotive brands. The site transformation and modernization was made possible thanks to all teams and an effective social dialogue with trade unions. This is a good news for our Group, for our customers and our employees. The site has now a sustainable future - said Yann Vincent, Executive Vice President of Manufacturing and Supply Chain Groupe PSA.

- With the start of production of the PureTech engine we begin a new chapter in the history of the Szentgotthard Plant. We are looking forward to facing new challenges in the future with confidence and determination, and we are proud to contribute to the shift to low-emission PureTech petrol engines - said Grzegorz Buchal, Szentgotthard plant manager.
